HYPO2 MENTAL PERFORMANCE

“I participated in Shannon’s Coaches Mental Training Intensive and I really enjoyed it.  I found myself using so much of what I learned with my student athletes and they were really responding.  It went so well that I thought we would benefit from one of the team mental training intensive programs.  I truly think this is one of the best things we could have done for our teams.

Our men in particular responded so well.  They wanted to meet each week to talk about what they took from each session and how they could apply it to the season.  They loved the content, it helped them shift their focus away from outcome and comparison and feel like they had a little more control over what happened on race day.  If it did not go as planned they were more prepared to handle it.  They were racing with more confidence and having more fun.

SAs can be very hard on themselves if things are not going well and in the MTI sessions they learned tools that can help them get through these times or at least see a light at the end of the tunnel.  The results also speak for themselves.  On the women’s side we had our first NCAA XC qualifier in a decade and our men finished 11 spots higher than last year at the regional meet after losing one of our top guys to graduation.”

Shannon Thompson has been invaluable to our high school cross country team as a mental skills coach. Through our weekly skills sessions, Shannon interacted directly with our kids and authentically related to their experiences while sharing her wisdom and specific techniques for how to manage race anxiety, create loose plans, visualize effectively, and so much more. I attribute so much of our team’s ability to handle the highs and lows of the sport to her work. It has given us a mental edge that has not only led to a state championships title, but is also giving our kids actionable tools for success not just in distance running, but in their everyday lives. If you are looking to elevate your program’s mental skills and overall performance, look no further than Shannon!
